This blog focuses on little victories.
What are little victories? Well, little victories are easier to understand once you know what the big victories are. Winning the election to be president of the United States of America. Becoming the next man on the moon. Earning like a million bucks. That’s a big victory!
Not many people get the big victories. Do you have to work with people who do not agree with you? Do you work with tight budgets? Is your time to do anything limited? If you kept chasing or praying for a big victory, you might be left waiting for a long time. If you have to wait a long time, you would get demoralised, or restless, and you might even attempt evil things. So what are you going to do about it? Give up and go home because the big victories are now impossible?
No, you play the long game. Little victories are about taking control in the face of obstacles. It is about taking the steps towards working your way to your accomplishments. Little victories are also about getting by and making the most of a situation you are given.
In the end, it’s about finding that sweet spot between cheap, fast and good. Is it going to change the world? Maybe not. Will it improve my life? Hell yeah.
You might retort: to improve our lives, aren’t we all supposed to go in and break things? Isn’t that the whole shebang about technology? Survivor bias might encourage you to think like that, but it is hardly the only way. If life offers you the opportunity to change the world by breaking things, I would gladly take it. For now, though I would aim for the little victories I can get.
